Another week with unpleasant, in fact downright nasty weather for golfing activities, and once again the Nine–Holers couldn’t possibly play golf in the severe storm that plagued the area on their Club day, Tuesday October 15. They are considering aquatic activities as a more reliable option.
Women’s golf—18 holes
There were not many players at golf on Wednesday October 16 for the Karl Wilson Buttons final, and the last chance to climb the board for the Shootout. Nor was it easy to score well because there was so much debris on the course from the storms of the previous days, and therefore more hindrance than run, and the last of the staff verti-draining activities on some greens didn’t make putting a breeze! Bad weather hasn’t helped them either, and this work has to be done.
Nett haggle results: Wendy Matutinovich 70; Kay Marshall 71; Helen Baynes 73; Karen Lee, Jenny Gallaugher 75; Jill Austin, Kaylene Croker 76; Avon Gordon 77; Jan Robinson, Mavis Bruce 79.
Hidden Holes:Pat Hay, Helen Baynes, Kay Marshall, Kaylene Croker 7 points.
Player of the week: Wendy Matutinovich.
The Veterans’ contingent had a bad deal on Monday October 14, with freezing cold conditions, strong wind and misty drizzle only adding to their discomfort. There was a very good muster, with most loyally turning up for the pre-golf Annual General meeting in which the incumbent Captain Chris O’Connell and committee were returned unopposed, with only Mavis Bruce retiring from the Committee after serving for some years.
After the meeting, some looked at the glowering clouds, decided to forgo a game of golf and left for home. In spite of this, there were 31 in the field for the 5th nett medal round, and there were some very good scores, most notable being Earle White’s 61 nett, 11 under his handicap, with this outstanding round following his not-so-good performance the previous day in the Apata tournament—so typical of golf .
