Women’s golf—18 holes
Due to a family bereavement the Silver division Club Matchplay Championship final between Carol Leary and Michelle Libby was deferred from Championship Day until Wednesday October 9— when the 36- hole match was played in superb conditions. Both players were on form, and after 18 holes Carol was two holes up, with Michelle fighting back. However Carol relentlessly held onto her lead in the second round, increasing it to seven coming to the 29th green where she made an uncharacteristic short chip on to the green, giving Michelle a good opportunity to take one back—six down and seven to play. But Carol’s substantial experience showed in the next hole, settling the match on the 30th green. Well done to both players for a great match, and congratulations Carol for winning the trophy yet again.
There was a small field playing a nett Haggle on Saturday October 5 in the usual cloudy and windy conditions, not very pleasant.
Nett results: Desley Rosevear 69; Karen Roche 70; Vivienne Lilley 71; Penny Joyce 72; Martine Milicich 73; Niria Gerbich 75; Shoneen Dunning 76; Bev Ireland 77; Sharon Deacon 78; Susan Mustard 79.

Hallelujah! It was a hot, calm sunny day on Wednesday October 9, and 33 people came out first to play a stableford haggle then afterwards to watch the Silver Championship Matchplay final.

Veterans’ golf
The Veteran Men’s Handicap Matchplay semi-final matches have been played. Allen Sarjant b Bob Hoggard on the 14th hole; Gerry Tompkins b Allen Smith on the 13th. The final match between Allen Sarjant and Gerry Tompkins will be played before or on October 21.
On Monday October 7 there was heavy overcast with a light misty drizzle, and not many people in the field. Who can blame them? Foul playing conditions have been the order of the day for many weeks, and one can hardly criticise people for finding something more comfortable to do. Stableford results: Errol Millar, John Saunders 38 points; Allen Smith 36; Kerry Lewis 35; Tim Parish, Bill Tiffin, John Drent 34; Ken Purcell, Peter Maria, Allen Sarjant 31; Earle White 30. Twos: John Saunders. Ladies: Helen Baynes 37 points; Diane Lewis 34; Jenny Gallaugher 31.
Nine hole golf
The Nine- hole group found it hard to believe that they actually had a day without rain on Tuesday October 8 for their nett competition, but it wasn’t without drama. On the seventh fairway, one of the carts became stranded and refused to move, needing pushing and had to be rescued by greens staff and Club Manager.
Results: Women Wintle Cup Nett:
Division 1: Glen Bennett 35; Cathy Shannon, Jean Cotterill 36; Margaret Meldrum 43.
Division 2: Helen Brady 31; Sue Ryan 32; Gwen Garrett 33; Mandy Piper 35.
Men TOB Nett: Peter Madsen 31; Brian Hunter 35; Clyde Smith, Brian Warren 37.
Working Bee
It was very pleasing to have a good turnout for the Working Bee on Tuesday October 8, with the majority placing seeded soil in divots on the fairways, some tidying the gardens, and others busy with a water blaster around the Clubhouse forecourt. As always, many hands make light work, and must have been a great morale-booster for the greens staff. The many repaired divots, looking a bit like measles, will hopefully be a reminder for all players to replace their divots.
One other thing—not a lot of player rubbish in evidence now, especially tissues—nasty germ-infested, unhygienic things. Now if we could eliminate cigarette butts as well….. ?
